Is there any way to unlock an iphone 3GS with the ios4 software? I dont really care about the jailbreaking. I just want to use it for T mobile.

Even though the unlock for iOS 4.0 is out and it is Ultrasn0w 0.9.3. You have to jailbreak first before you can install Ultrasn0w from Cydia. There is a jailbreak for 3GS ( old bootrom only). If you have the new bootrom, you have to wait probably this week when the new jailbreak comes out, so new bootrom , don't restore yet.

and you have to be jailbroken on 3.1.2 correct?

Well i guess i have to wait because its bascially a new phone, no unlock, no jailbroken.

Yes, that is correct, u have to be jailbroken at 3.1.2 but not with spirit jailbroken.
