Unlocking for a moron
First post and i apologize in advance for repeating a question but my friend swears by this place and i need some help. I am very new to the iphone scene so think of me as a child when it comes to some of this stuff. I have an iphone that has 3.1.3 firmware and 5.12.01. I want to get my wife's t-mobile sim card to work with this. Can this be done and if i can do this where are the instructions? Thanks for any and all help and i do greatly appreciate it.

Yes , it can be done,
Run Spirit jailbreak but must not be Itunes 9.2, anything between Itunes 8.2 to 9.1 is fine.
Once successfully restored, open Cydia, let it update and search for Ultrasn0w 0.93 to install, reboot.
You are now jailbroken at 3.1.3 and unlocked with Ultrasn0w.

If you are already at Home Screen , then you don't need the atnt sim

I don't understand, you said you are at 3.1.3 version and you can see the baseband, you are already at Home Screen, of course you can use it as an ipod touch now. You can even jailbreak and unlock. When you are at Home screen you don't need the official sim card to do jailbreaking and unlocking.

Sorry about that but when i got the iphone my friend showed me the specs and firmware on his system which had all that nice stuff. My system does not have itunes but my wife's system has itunes 9.0. I'll try the process on her system and see if i get lucky.

couldn't you just remove it and reinstall an older version?

In order to remove Itunes completely, do the followings
Uninstall the followings
Itunes
Apple Mobile Device Support
Apple Software Support
Apple Application Support
Quicktime
Bonjour
And finally run Ccleaner
Reboot.
Done
Now you can install Itunes of your choice.Last edited by iYeow; 06-26-2010 at 12:49 AM.
