Question Jailbroken and Unlocked iPhone 3G on iOS4 is missing the "Cellular Data Network" button

    Hi,

I jailbroke and unlocked my iPhone 3G using these instructions: iClarified - iPhone - How to Unlock the iPhone 3G, 3GS Using UltraSn0w

It worked fine except for one issue. The "Cellular Data Network" button is missing under Settings -> General -> Networks.

I altered the carrier.pslist as detailed in this post but it did not appear.

Any ideas on how I can get the "Cellular Data Network" button to appear in iOS4 so I can configure my APN and have internet access on my phone?

Go to Cydia, search for "APN Editing" install and restart your phone.

I had already tried that and it failed the installation midway. Apparently, the "APN Editing" app has not worked since 3.0: APN Editing error on installing

    Any other ideas?

What firmware are u on? Have u done the full upgrade in cydia? it asks u to do it the first time u enter. Seems that u r on a firmware that's not compatible with this softwere. U can check ur firmware in settings/general/about u need to look fir ur version and modem firmwere.

Have u got appsync 4.0 on ur iPhone? Try installing the things in the list u provided in ur last post first and then try to download sp. I unlocked a eg yesterday on os4.0 which had the same prob but sup pref solved the prob. Although I do put all the necessery sources and all sources before doing any thing after a jailbreak.

    My phone has:

    Firmware: 4.0 (8A293)
    Modem Firmware: 05.13.04

What's appsync 4.0 and how do I install the individual apps that were listed?

Is their a simpler solution than this by any chance?

I'm not on T-Mobile, I'm on an MVNO overseas. Before upgrading to iOS4.0, I was able to use the internet by changing the APN settings. Now I can't get to the APN settings as described in my OP.

Any ideas? Can't the APN settings be manually edited via SSH?

The part where you steal developers hard earned work. appsync=stealing apps... Which part do you think is a no-no?

Did you update to 4.0? or restore to 4.0?

If you updated, thats your problem

Do a clean restore, and setup as a new phone
The only thing I ask in return for helping, is that you click the thanks button, Thanks!

Did you restore from a backup or setup as new?

Seems a lot of people are experiencing this problem after using redsn0w 0.9.5b5-4.
Check post number 8 in this thread to fix "Cellular Data Network" tab missing after updating to IOS4

Default Mms and Internet apn fix

I was able to get the missing cellular data settings back by installing the cydia.xsellize repo and then searching for supreme preferences 3.0. you must enable this in winter board and then enable cellular data settings under carrier prefs.

To answer my question, YES THERE IS.

Everyone has been giving overly-complicated solutions when all that needs to be done to resolve this is to:

    1) Go to Unlockit - APN Changer for your iPhone on your iPhone.

    2) Setup up your custom APN.

    3) Send the custom profile to yourself via E-mail.

    4) Open the attachment in the iPhone Mail and you're good to go.

Took me about a minute and my 3G internet works now.

    Enjoy!
