T mobile iphone unlocked..confused, need help

I'm going to buy a used iphone 3gs 16g from Craiglist. I been doing alots of research. I'm worried about the activation screen and then going to the emergency call screen. I just want to unlock the iphone for T-Mobile, will I have to go thru all the activation screen? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

It's super easy to get past the activation screen, but when you do unlock it, take your time. If you plan on using this as your phone, the extra 15 minutes it would take for you to do research and overview a tutorial, could save you hours of frustration later

i had to buy a $10 pre paid sim chip for ATT.. because i ended up restoring the phone a few times as i learned on how to jailbreak/unlock. and whatever you do..... DO NOT UPGRADE to iOS4!!!!
