New phone...help ?
Hi guys, im new here.
I've bought a brand new iPhone 3GS from store. It has 3.1.3 version and 05.12.01 firmware. Don't know about bootloaders. The phone works great and its awsome. Can i jailbreak it and use it also as a phone without any problem ? If so, can some one post a link with the description ? I've heard that its possible to get stuck in the process of jailbreaking or iven worse, so im worried about it and thats why i want to know. Thank you very much !

You can only use that iPhone with AT&T for now, assuming you bought it in USA. You can jailbreak it safely with spirit and not get stuck.
You can download Spirit here --> Spirit

If you're on AT&T, Spirit will work fine as it requires an activated phone. If you don't have AT&T, and you are on 3.1.3, you won't be able to jailbreak it unless you get an AT&T SIM.

How long would you need to use the 'official' sim to activate the phone?
Say I have a brand new unactivated phone (emergency call screen).
I wanna JB it.
Do I only need the official sim for 1 minute (put in in, activate and take it out)
Or do I need the sim for the whole JB process?

This only applies to 3GS phones on 3.1.3 or 3.1.2 wanting an untethered jailbreak. If you dont have a 3GS you wont need to do it.
If you do have a new 3GS on 3.1.3, you can get an AT&T SIM (prepaid of course) or whatever the official carrier is of the phone (international phones including orange) and get the SIM to activate it. You only need the SIM as long as it takes to activate and get you to the "waiting to activate" portion of the process. You may then continue to run Spirit on it to jailbreak. Unlocks still do not apply for 5.12.01 basebands.
