UNLOCK/JAILBREAK iPHONE 4 AT ACTIVATION SCREEN
I preordered an iPhone 4 today and when I get it I plan to use it on Tmobile, not ATT.
So obviously I am not going to activate it, so I was wondering if there is a way to unlock/jailbreak (mainly unlock, but if i must jailbreak to unlock, that's okay) my iPhone FROM THE ACTIVATION SCREEN (SLIDE FOR EMERGENCY CALL)?
I know that an exploit has been found and that the unlock software will be released soon after the release of the iPhone 4 so Apple doesn't patch it.
Just wondering, how can I unlock my iPhone 4 for Tmobile without activating it.
Thank You!

No, unfortunately not, atleast to jailbreak which you need to, to unlock it.
See if a friend can lend you a sim for 2 minutes. Or put an ad on the classifieds saying youll pay someone 5 bucks for 1 min of their time. Shouldn't be too hard to get your hands on one.

So you're saying if I put in one of my friend's activated SIMs in my iPhone 4, it will go right to "Slide to Unlock" rather than "Slide for Emergency Call"?
That will be easy since about five of my good friends are getting the iPhone 4 (the real way ;]).
Then I jailbreak/unlock once I am at my Springboard, give their SIM back and put in my Tmobile SIM?Last edited by grant1x; 06-15-2010 at 06:20 PM. Reason: misspell

Exactly. But you don't need their sim to jb or unlock you just need wifi for that. Only need the sim to get passed slide for emergency and once you do that your set.
Happy modding!
Hit thanks if i helped =)Last edited by Shockster; 06-15-2010 at 06:58 PM. Reason: edit

Thank you so much!
I was getting scared because I went into ATT today and preordered my iPhone 4 confident that I would be able to unlock it but then I remembered the activation screen.
And one more quick question,
all the stuff about an exploit to unlock the baseband 5.12.01 is true, correct?
iPhone 4 users will be able to jailbreak/unlock a few days or so after launch day?

Truth is we don't really know yet if or when the iPhone 4 will jailbroken/unlocked. Nobody in the community has had any time with the device yet. It will most likely be done but it could take weeks. Nobody knows. I think I would've waited until an exploit was released before spending $600+ on a phone that I may or may not be able to use...

On another note, make sure that friend has an iPhone 4 with AT&T. Pretty sure any regular AT&T customer wouldnt like you cutting up their SIM just for a minute to put in your microSIM iPhone

right. i will be borrowing my friend's micro ATT SIM card that is regularly activated for their iPhone 4.
and I did not spend 600$, it was 200$.
i am willing to wait a few weeks for this phone.
and if worse comes to worst, there's always someone on eBay lookin to buy the new iphone and willing to pay close to full retail.
I just wanted to have it so I wouldn't have to wait longer than it would take the unlock to come out to actually get the phone in my hands.
thanks for the help everyoneLast edited by grant1x; 06-15-2010 at 09:32 PM.

How'd you get it for $200 without an AT&T contract?

If the jailbreak can hactivate the Iphone 4, you don't even need the official sim card to activate. The problem now is the new iphone 4 has a new hardware, more security, so it might not be jailbreakable for the time being or if it is jailbreakable, it might be tethered jailbreak for awhile. I am sure Apple has looked into all aspects of loophole.
You can ask your "Good Friend " who is currently on AT&T and has Data Plan already who does not want to upgrade his phone but willing to sign a contract to buy it for you..then you pay $199 for 16gb plus tipping to your friend...

I got it for $200 because my friend is an ATT customer but was not looking to use her upgrade.
She kindly ordered the iPhone 4 for me, well aware that she was starting a whole new 2 year contract for that specific line.
I simply gave my friend $200 in cash and she preordered it for me.
Also in return, I was going to giving her my iPhone 3G for her to use instead of her crappy flip phone.
So it all worked out, but now I am highly dependent on a jailbreak/unlock for my iPhone 4.

Lol and order one of those sim cutters there about $20...instead of cutting manually.

i'm guessing your friend is ok with being stuck with the $30/month bill she/he will get since she will have an iPhone on her plan?

@fventura: that's not true. The data plan isn't added to a line until the phone is activated with iTunes.

no because if you read the previous post in this thread, i am not activating the iPhone when I get it.
At least, not for her account.
I'm planning to unlock it for Tmobile, and yes we had to choose a data plan when preordering, but I asked the ATT guy and he said they wont bill the account for the iPhone plan until it is activated for that specific line on her plan.
so she wont be paying anything montly, just dealing with a new 2-year contract on that specific line.

And even ifmit is added (data plan) you can always remove it and still nit get charged...I opened a new line last year for the 3GS then put it on my line and the new line was used with a samsung...no iPhone data plan charged because I removed it
