iphone 3gs at&t activation help

I have a 16gb iphone 3gs with new bootrom on fw 3.1.3, so no unlock for me. I live in the UK, so I bought an at&t sim card off ebay, but it failed to activate my iphone, which is locked to at&t. The sim card i bought was blue in colour, but I have seen that you can also buy ones on ebay that are orange in colour (but still say at&t 3g on them). Will this orange type of sim card work? And finally, if I buy a brand new, never activated at&t sim card and try to use that, will I get the screen in itunes where I have to choose a plan? Any help would be greatly appreciated, as I am very close to giving up and selling it.

The Blue one should work as fine, did you turn power off and on again ?

I have the same blue card and it worked even without setting it up with AT&T. (i live in Canada)

I just slipped it in and got past the dial screen. I do get the "attempting to activate" message, but i just skip it.

Itunes doesn't ask/care about the sim either, just that i have one.

I live in Canada too, all I do is put my AT&T sim card, it jumps from Emergency to Home Screen within a minute or two, I don't see why you can't do it in England.

Hahaha...it won't be sweet if it is just for one. I am quite sure, it can be used over and over again. An unactivated sim will just bump you from Emergency Screen into Springboard but it will still keep searching for activation. Activation will be completed when the carrier settings is restored.
