Unlock question

Hey everyone, great forum here.

I have an iPhone 3Gs on firmware 3.1.2 that I want to unlock. Does the phone need to be activated in order to unlock it? It was my dads but he doesnt pay for atnt anymore so it says no service in the top left corner. Can I still just JB with either blackra1n or spirit then just install blacksn0w?

Or is there something else I need to do as well? Thank you

If your Iphone is in Emergency Screen, you can use the card to activate it eventhough there is no service at this time because the card was originally activated before. Use Spirit jailbreak and Install Blacksn0w to unlock. You are set......
