Does boot loader version affect unlock?

I got a iphone 3g 8gb from ebay with firmware 3.1.2 modem firmware 05.11.07. I've used blackra1n/blacksn0w but cannot get any signal on my T-mobile sim card. In fact, the phone says "No Sim" on the top left corner.

I am just wondering, does boot loader version affect the unlock process.

no it doesn't... only affects if you can downgrade baseband or not.

only the baseband affects the unlock..

go ahead rejailbreak and reunlock and see if that solves your problem
