Help activating iPhone 3G on T-Mobile??

Hi, I just bought a 8GB iPhone 3G with no contract off eBay, and I can't do much since its not activated and it won't show up in my iTunes when I connect the USB cable, but I have a sim card from my T-Mobile phone and I am wondering what I can do right now? I can't tell what firmware version it is or anything because I can't get past the emergency sim card. I was planning to restore to 3.1.2 and then blackrain and blacksnow but the DFU or Recovery mode won't even work. any suggestions on what I should do?

and, what would happen if I put my T-Mobile sim card in while I'm in iTunes? Thanks.

if its on 3.1.3 you cannot carrier unlock it. Downgrading the firmware does not downgrade the baseband. Run blackrain, it should jailbreak even without activation.

well, one problem. i can't find out what version I'm on, I'm stuck on this screen and nothing on itunes is showing up
