No 3G Icon In Taskbar / Cant Send SMS With 3G

I have a jailbroken 3.1.2 iphone 3g with 5.11.07

first when my 3g is enabled there is no icon on the taskbar. it is either blank after the "AT&T" or when my wifi is connected just the wifi bars.

and when my 3g is enabled after a minute or so i cannot send/receive sms messages or make/receive calls. or anything of that sort.

my phone is activated through the jailbreak. once jailbroken it said "the phone is activated" or some message popup of that sort. so i know its ativated.

i can make/receive calls sms messages and stuff when the 3g is disabled. then the problem is there is no EDGE (E) icon on the taskbar. it is always blank after "AT&T" or wif bars when connected.
