Newbee NEEDS help!
I'm new to all this stuff so I don't really know what I'm talking about so I'm really sorry if my questions are stupid! I recently got my iphone unlocked not jailbroken(I only found out what that was yesterday). When I go to download apps from the store I get so far and then it tells me that I need to upgrade to version OS 3.0 - 3.2. My phone says it's 2.0.1 when I look at the settings. I was told when I got it unlocked not to upgrade because it would break. Is this true? What should I do so I can get apps?
Thanks for the help.

What iPhone do you have and what operating system do you use on your computer? Go ahead and jailbreak to 3.1.3. You can unlock again because your modem firmware (baseband) is unlock-able.
Until the next time… And if I help you out, give me a "Thanks!" Thanks!

No there's no cydia. I definitely know it's unlocked though because here the iphone is specifically for O2 and I'm on vodafone. (This was before vodafone was enabled too).
Thanks for your help though.
Sorry forgot to say that the phone is version 2.0.1 and the computer is windows xp. Is jailbreaking safe for me to do because I wouldn't have a clue what I would be doing?

Sure, jailbreaking is safe. Use redsn0w or blackra1n to jailbreak and then ultrasn0w or blacksn0w to unlock. I assume you have an iPhone 3G, right? I personally use PwnageTool for Mac to jailbreak as it for sure preserves the baseband allowing unlocking. Google for more info or search the forums.
Until the next time… And if I help you out, give me a "Thanks!" Thanks!

I'll look those up thanks. No it's not 3G ... Would this make a difference? Am I doing the wrong thing completely by using the app store?
Thanks

Might wanna go with 3.1.2 first, since youre new to this. If you go with 3.1.3 and "accidentally" upgrade your baseband, youll lose the ability to unlock.

I agree.
You're definitely not doing anything wrong by using the app store. You're iPhone is just out of date... Jailbreak to 3.1.2 (all though PwnageTool can jailbreak 3.1.3 without problems), unlock with yellowsn0w (seeing that you have an iPhone 2G) and update your apps.Until the next time… And if I help you out, give me a "Thanks!" Thanks!

Another newbee needs help
are you kidding me???
I tried to do a search for iPhone 2g and got the following message:
The following words are either very common, too long, or too short and were not included in your search: 2G
what should i have said instead?

Whether I search for "iphone 2g" or "2G" I get pages of results.
Until the next time… And if I help you out, give me a "Thanks!" Thanks!

Thanks to all of you! You really helped me ... I'm looking at the PwnageTool right now. I'm not confident enough in my abilities to get this done because some how I will find a way to break my phone. But, luckily I know someone who can.
Thanks for all your help.
