New iPhone "Waiting for Activation"

So I recently bought a broken iPhone from a friend and pieced it back together. It's working 100 percent now. But I'm unable to get service with my sim. I don't know if it's the phone but I'm sure it's a software problem. I upgraded to 3.1.3 on accident, but I down grade back to 3.1.2 but I still don't get any service just a waiting for activation screen. I do not have the iPhone data plan and I can't afford to get it. Is there aw way for me to activate my phone with ease and bypassing this? The base band is 05.12.01 I don't know if that matters. It is jailbroken, and please note I'm not trying to unlock the phone, just activate.

What method did you use to jailbreak it? What type of iPhone, 3g/3gs?
The jailbreak should have hacktivated it (activated)

You are trying to unlock the phone if you want to activate it.

5.12.01 can't be unlocked just yet, all you can do is jailbreak it but it won't allow your sim to work.

yeah good luck buddy. everyone's waiting for the 5.12.01 unlock. you can only fake activate it and use it as an ipod for now
