Couple of questions concerning a used 3gs I bought

hey guys, I bought a used 3gs from a soldier on a local military based. When I got the phone it had a vodafone sim card in it. I questioned him about it and he said that he had picked the iPhone up in Germany and swaped the sim card to a AT&T sim card when he got back to the states without any kind of unlocking software.

Does this mean the phone is factory unlocked or is it normal to be able to switch between two carriers from different countries without an unlock such as black ra1n?

Is there a way to tell if the phone is factory unlocked in the about section or anywhere else?

Sounds like its factory unlocked. Is Cydia or Icy on the phone? The phone would have to be jailbroken before it was unlocked, unless it is factory unlocked.
