unlocking ques
Say I want the possibility of using my now at&t iphone with T-mobile but would like to pull the sim and use it with at&t or t-mobile at will. Would I install the activated custom firmware and build my iphone with my apps and then be able to come and go from at&t to t-mobile at will or is it once I install the activated firmware, I have to stay with the unofficial carrier? I would like the possibility of using it with another carrier but staying mostly at at&t. Is this possible? Will I screw things up if I use the activated firmware with the t-mobile sim when I put my at&t sim in?
Thanks as always!

If you are on iPhone 3.1.3, chances are you can't unlock now.

If you unlock you can come and go between ATT and Tmobile slightly easy. It will disrupte your apps or sync'd info.

How should I go about it? Stick the t mobile sim in and use the activated custom firmware and rebuild apps or ? I used an unactivated custom firmware the last time I restored.
When you say disrupte? What will happen?

Just run blackra1n? You could also use redsn0w if you're sure its the old bootrom.

Gotcha. Blackra1n would probably do it, but for the sake of being safe, just stick an AT&T sim and activate it first? Then use cydia and get blacksn0w.

So, use blacksn0w with the already unactivated firmware with the AT&T sim in the phone. I won't need to start over with s different firmware?
Thanks!!

You will if you are on 3.1.3, if so, downgrade to 3.1.2 and then blackra1n it.

Blackra1n? I'm already jb! I'm confused! I have a 3gs 3.1.2 with 5.11.07 on a unactivated firmware.
Can you use blacksn0w on a custom firmware? I guess blacksn0w is the only option on 5.11.07, right?Last edited by mj0528; 03-26-2010 at 01:43 PM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost

Sorry, you're device plus firmware thing said you were on 3.1.3. Do you not have an AT&T sim to activate the phone with? If it is jailbroken already like you said, just activate it again and get blacksn0w.

Oh, you're right. I had one on 3.1.3 then I traded for an old bootrom 3.1.2. My iPhone is currently with AT&T and I have a work phone with a tmobile sim card. I'd like to trade them back and forth whenever I wanted.
Thanks for your help!'

But you said the phone is unactivated, but it is jailbroken? If its a USA phone, just put the AT&T sim in and activate it and go to Cydia, then get blackra1n.

Yes, jailbroken with a unactivated ipsw for use with AT&T. So, just get blacksn0w from cydia and I can then swap sim cards out at any time between my AT&T personal phone and my tmobile work phone at any time? Sorry I haven't given thanks. I will when I come back and reply on my pc.
Thanks!

The only app that should be affected is sms/mms. Different ipcc files. Other than that, if you are unlocked, you can switch sims at any time with no issues.

Thanks guys! now I'm debating using blacksn0w. Seems like a lot of people have issues with it. No?
Thanks again!

If you are on the 5.11 baseband, you HAVE to use blacksn0w.
