I have been reading heaps of posts and this seems to answer most of my questions. I want to jailbreak and then unlock my iPhone 3G 3.1.3 5.12.01

I have having issues with redsn0w as I am using 0.9.4 and when I browse to the ipsw file it says it is not recognized.

I just want to be sure on the procedure of first jailbreaking and then unlocking the iPhone 3G OS 3.1.3 BB 5.12.01

Any help would be appreciated.

Go to safari then type JailbreakMe to download cydia apps. You must wifi to do this. Then add the 666repo.ultrasn0w.com and install ultrasn0w. Reebot and your good to go. We got the same fw.

You're probably pointing at the wrong ipsw. You'll need to point at the 3.1.2 ipsw (not 3.1.3) when using Redsn0w.

I seemed to have solved the problem. I downloaded redsn0w 0.9.2 and that read my ipsw files just fine. I continued with that and then installed ultrasn0w and it seems to be working fine.

Cydia is asking to install some critical updates, and it says it has failed to fetched quite a few things as well.

I am not sure if I should be installing anything, as I want this phone to stay unlocked. Any thoughts?

I have a locked(AT&T) iPhone with details:
Version : 3.1.3 (7E18)
Carrier : AT&T 5.6
Modem F/W : 05.12.01

I have moved out of USA and am currently out of the AT&T network and have disconnected the connection.

Please let me know how I can unlock and use my iPhone with a provider here.

If u have a wifi connection. Go to safari and type this url - JailbreakMe then slide the slider to the right and wait to do its thing and after that you will have cydia icon on your springboard. Launch that and download/update cydia and after you install necessary files. Go to sources and edit + add and add the repo666.ultrasn0w.com/ and install ultrasnow and your iphone will b unlock. The o on snow is number 0 not letter o

I have managed to unlock my iPhone 3G on baseband 5.12.01 running iOS 3.1.3, but i have managed to jailbreak with Redsn0w 0.9.4 & unlock with ultrasn0w.

Here is how, restore with iTunes the original ipsw file by holding down shift & restore, ensure that u have both ipsw for 3.1.3- to restore & 3.1.2 to use when jailbreaking since redsn0w 0.9.4 is not able to identify the 3.1.3 ipsw file. So you just point the redsn0w 0.9.4 to 3.1.2 to enable jailbreaking.

At this point your iPhone 3G will have been updated to iOS 3.1.3 Baseband 5.12.01 (THE SO CALLED UNLOCKABLE BASEBAND) BOOT LOADER will be 6.04 above


After successful jailbreak connect the iPhone to the internet via wifi & open cydia let it update its sources & finish loading data (might take time). Search in the sources for Fuzzyband

install fuzzyband & open it. Fuzzyband is used to downgrade or upgrade your baseband. At this point it will query your Modem for info. u shud be able to see the bootloader + BB +iOS version.

Fuzzyband will suggest baseband upgrade to 5.13.04 which is unlockable with UltraSn0w. Upgrade the baseband, might take some time

Search in cydia for Ultrasn0w install it & reboot....... VOILLA!!! iPhone 3G unlocked on 3.1.3 BB 5.12.01 upgraded to BB 5.13.04
