Complete n00b need's help

I will be acquiring a 2G iPhone this weekend and it's unlocked and jailbroken..I was wandering if I could use it on prepaid. I don't need data, just txt and calls. Data would be awesome but not required.

lease help me out

Yes you can. I have two friends that are using pepaid in unlocked iPhones.

Use one of the tutorials on this site. Restore with custom firmware, either by creating it or downloading it. You dont have to use an official AT&T sim. I usually just leave the T-Mobile sim in while unlocking. Never had a problem.

So get a custom firmware..IS that a rom(I deal with WinMo phones)..reflash it(restore it with iTunes??) and I'm good to go??

All I will have is a new AT&T sim..Do I activate the sim to get my number, and then put it in and restore it??

In the top gray header bar, click on "Guides" all the info you need is there. Since you have a 2G phone on AT&T makes it even easier. You can jailbreak any firmware for it.

This is one device(and the only device) that has made me look dumb..and I hate it.

Anyway, I did see the guides and they were for firmware 3.1.3 and mines 3.1.2, and he said he was clearing it now and he was gonna unlock it and jailbreak it for me. Since I'm going prepaid, will I have to do it again?

I swear, I'm not this dumb. I have made,cooked,edited, and flashed many WinMo and Droid phones in the past but the iPhone has me stumped..lol

You're only stumped because its so easy. Really! Once you see youre trying too hard, it'll all snap in place. The first times the hardest.
