Default Just bought iPhone, its unlocked and jailbroken

I have just managed to buy a 32GB 3GS iPhone, it is already unlocked and jailbroken, its one of the safe ones. I bought it for £529.99, which is a pretty good price wouldn't you say

    My questions are:

    1. Am I ok turning it off whenever?
    2. How do I make sure iTunes doesn't update the firmware to 3.1.3?
    3. How do I use the free wi-fi hotspots when I am out and about and there is one close by?
    4. Is there an app from MSN Messanger?

and a final question, is there anything thing else I need to know or should be weary of??

    1. If it's one of the safe ones (has old bootrom) than you can shut it off at will. If for some reason it turns out not to be one of the safe ones, you can just run blackrain and it will boot your phone.

    2. iTunes will ask you to update. Click no and check the box that says 'don't ask me again' and it won't nag you.

    3. When a wifi spot is nearby, go into Settings > Wifi > click on network under 'Choose a Network'

    4. Not sure about this one. I know there are all in one apps where you can use multiple messenger services such as beejive but I don't know if there's a stand alone MSN app.
