Can the following iPhone be unlocked and jailbroken??

Hi all, I am new to this forum..
I am looking at getting an iPhone, just wanting to know if the following can be unlocked and jailbroken:

Apple Iphone 3g S 32gb
model number (A1303)
currently on O2

The phone Is running 3.1.2 Firmware with 5.11.07 baseband

I am new to the iPhone and unlocking and jailbreaking, however I have an iPod so I know the basics about Apple

if not, when it comes to unlocking and jailbreaking, what versions, model numbers, Firmware and baseband do i need to look at that doesn't cause problems and which ones do I stay away from??

edit: its just that I've seen an iphone on ebay and i put in a best offer earlier, but now i'm thinking i shouldn't have done that in case the seller accepts my offer and have ended up buying the wrong 1, need some quick advice just in case

Just make sure that u don't update to 3.1.3 using itunes

what about the tethered issue??

is this just when u unlock you get this problem?? or is it with jailbreaking too??
in a way i might not need to unlock the phone (or will i?) cos the network is O2 that the phone is on, and i'm on O2 anyways and don't expect to change to any other network any time soon as O2 is great for offers

Tethered jailbreak involves a 3GS with the new bootrom (after week 39 phones). You cannot get around a tethered jailbreak if you have that model.

do you know which firmware and basebands i should stick to?? and i'll just have to hope that the seller doesn't accept my offer, lol

How about a 3G,with 3.1.3, 5.9 bootrom, 05.12.01 baseband? Is it gonna be unlockable anytime soon?

No, there is no unlock for ANY device on bb 5.12.1.

If some people are lucky like me to have a 3G with bootloader 5.08 we can downgrade our baseband to 4.28.xx with fuzzyband downgrader so we can unlock again if accidentally upgraded.

Unlock looks unclear as it may be released when the next major firmware is released. Possibly in June.

So is bb 05.12.01 associated with bootrom 5.9? As soon as they can unlock this bb, does that mean the bootrom 5.9 won't be an issue?

You shouldnt have any issuse, the problem you will have is wether you want to run the jailbreak program everytime you switch your phone off, NOT locking the but completly switching it off. I have a tethered jailbreak i always make sure my iPhone is always on charge or not letting it get below 20-30%, i have found that I have only rejailbreak it about 6-10 time and each time it loads up, all a tethered jailbreak is a slight hinderance but for this hinderance you get to open up the iPhone

Um what do you mean unblock it? Did you mean unlock or unblock it as in someone reported it stolen or missing?

And someone said something about the bootrom 5.09 and bb 5.12.1, bootrom is hardware and bb is software they have nothing to do with each other. The only bootrom that matters so to say as of right now is 5.08 cuz it allows bb downgrade but no other bootrom can.

I just got a iphone 3G and was going to ask the same thing. its version 3.1.2 but it has BB 5.12.01. Can I just unlock and not jailbreak or i cant do either?

5.12.01 bb CANNOT be unlocked at this time. It can be jailbroken. 3.1.2 firmware is fine.
