I have tried at least seven different customs, and none have worked.
This is from Quickpwn:
It’s possible to unlock iPhone 3.1.2 but only if your baseband has not been updated to 05.11.07 or the newer baseband, you must create a custom firmware that uses the 04.26.08 baseband.
He just said when he runs blacksn0w his phone hangs at apple logo.
Have you tried redsn0w at all? It works for FW 3.1.2
Oh wait I just reread. Redsn0w is a jailbreak tool I think youre mistaking it for something else. If you want an unlock blacksn0w is your only option. Try adding a new repo to add blacksn0w. Google "alternative repo for blacksn0w"

Hi. I registered because of this post. I have the exact same problem.
I have a 3Gs on 3.2.1 custom firmware baseband 05.11.07. I'm in Bahrain. The thing I cant wrap my brain around is how it happened.
I've been using my iPhone for around 4 months now and it was fine. Yesterday, I was walking around in a mall and the apple logo simply popped up!
I went back home and restored, used Blacksn0w as usual and... the iPhone keeps searching for signal until it freezes again. Which is kinda ironic because it gets really hot in the process.
so WTF happened? It was fine yesterday morning, and I didn't upgrade anything or download anything. I was walking around in a mall!
You need to restore first to a clean official firmware and then you can jailbreak and unlock it. Unfortunately if you haven't got the shsh on file you re out of luck.
The problem is that when restoring to an official firmware it probably clears more than in case of a custom restore. So if your modem cannot be unlocked using blacksn0w after custom restore you need to make official restore.
