Jailbreak/Unlock 3G - 04.26.08

quick questions (i think) I have a iPhone 3G with baseband 04.26.08 running 3.01 that's never been jailbroken. I want to jailbreak and unlock though have read about some no service issues that I clearly want to avoid in addition to having a tethered unlock. Do these issues only happen when the baseband is upgraded? And if so could someone point me to the appropriate guide (OSX) to use to accomplish a jailbreak and unlock without upgrading the baseband? I have looked through the guides but I'm a little unclear and want to ensure I'm using the right one - thanks so much.

Create or download custom firmware. This will preserve your baseband, and you should have no issues with unlocking. Tethering is only on the 3gs, so no worries about that either.
