Default How do i get canadian factory unlocked iPhone to work with Telcel (Mexico) sim???

A friend is visiting from mexico and i got him an iphone which was unlocked (not jailbroken, but the unlocked version like apple has them before programming)

he is with Telcel in mexico and het gets reception on his phone here. When i put his sim in the new iphone, it doesnt do anything (doesnt find the Rogers networkd or anything). My rogers sims works in the phone however.

I also have my own Rogers iphone which i jailbroke and unlocked so i could use it with my ATT sim when im in the US, but his sim doesnt work neither.

Any idead on how to get his sim to work in the canadian iphone? is it carrier settings or something that needs to be downloaded?

It should automatically work. A factory unlocked phone will function with ANY SIM card. Just a gander, are you sure that phone is factory unlocked?

A Canadian Iphone is married to the first sim put into it after activation with an official canadian carrier (Rogers/Telus/Fido or Virgin) If its not jailbroken and unlocked it wont work because it wont activate in itunes with the mexican sim and wont accept it after unless its unlocked. You need to make sure his carriers frequencies and carrier technology match the Iphone as well, IE: 850/1900 GPRS/HSPA. Some carriers use 900/2100 and some use 850 but not 1900 or vice versa
