How to upgrade 2G

Hi,

I have been given a 2g 8GB iphone to upgrade to the latest firmware/software and unlock. I was wondering if someone could guide me on how to upgrade the firmware to 3.1.2 and the moden firmware to 05.11.07. I tried downloading the ispw file from this site but itunes doesn't recognise it and im not sure if they upgrade the modem firmware.

Any help would be appreciated

Click on the "Guides" link above in the gray header, everything you need is there.
Use "FireFox" browser to download the .ipsw file also. if after you download the 3.1.2 ipsw it has a .zip file extension, re-name it to .ipsw

It would be very difficult to find a guide to do that - the BB on the 2G hasn't been updated since 04.05.04
Trying to get a 3G BB working on a 2G is really not a good idea...

Iv never really dealt with 2g iphones so im a complete n00b when it comes to them. I didn't realise the bb hasn't been updated since 04.05.04 on th 2g. If i download the 3.1.2 ispw from this site and restore the iphone with it will it take the baseband up with it to 04.05.04, which is what i want. The person who owns the phone wants it all up to date.

So basically when im finished i will hopefully have a 2g iphone on 3.1.2 with baseband 04.05.04 which is jailbroken with black rain and unlocked with blacksnow. Does that make sense? Im only presuming that blacksnow and rain are the best softwares to use.

I did have a look through the guides but couldn't find anthing to help me. Maybe i was being a bit dense with the searching.

With a 2g on 3.1.2 you would use bootneuter from Cydia for the unlock.

BlackSn0w is for 3G/3GS only.
You could use BlackRa1n but you would then have to use BootNeuter.
Far easier just to use RedSn0w.

i take it redsnow jailbreaks and unlocks?

Can anyone comment on how i should upgrade the phone and if the ispw files on this site will upgrade the baseband to 04.05.04?

RedSn0w JB and unlocks the 2G - just upgrade to 3.13 but use the 3.12 ipsw for RedSn0w

I don't know who told you baseband equals up to date. 2G's are the better iphone to unlock/jailbreak. Your friend should only be concerned with being on 3.1.3 and unlocked/jailbroken-nothing more. Its not necessary for you to use Blackrain as mentioned above for the 2G use Redsnow pwnagtool or restore to a custom ipsw and always use Firefox when updating just make sure you check this site whenever the firmware updates to make sure the unlock is ready for the 2G otherwise your friend will have a iphone paperweight until the unlock update is ready for release.
