NEED HELP!!! stuck on apple icon!!!

I had to restore my iPhone 3g with no att sim. I tried to jailbreak before activation. now it is stuck on the apple icon and won't go away!! using 3.0 firmware.

Hold down the power and home button for about 20 seconds until you see the connect to iTunes logo. This is recovery mode. You can then restore to whatever firmware you want. I recommend 3.1.2 then jailbreak with redsn0w or blackrain after activation.

I have done that and it still comes up to the Apple logo and stays there.

with iPhone NOT connected to computer, hold down power and home button. When screen goes black, release power, but keep holding home button. Plug in usb cable (assuming its already plugged into computer). Wait a few seconds, restore screen will appear. Release home button. iTunes will then let you restore.
