How do I check if my iPhone is unlocked?
Hi all.
I have recently bought an iPhone 3GS 32GB from play.com
It was from a playtrade thinggy so it wasnt directly from play.com
The item description said it was unlocked.
When I received the phone, it was already activated and unlocked.
But had no sign of jailbreaking?
There was no Cydia no Blackra1n no rock nothing.
So I put in my 3 (Three UK) sim and it works.
Everthing works.
Aafter syncing with my compute I decided to jailbreak.
I thought maybe I could be Blacksn0w under installed packages on Rock.
So I used Blackra1n and jailbroke it and installed Rock and Cydia (Rock is faster then cydia. but some times cydia works better then Rock so i install both)
From the Rock app i checked but there was no blacksn0w installed.
So i emailed the seller asking how it was unlocked, and they replied me saying that they unlock it at their warehouse but didnt say how but only told me not to update the firmware.
I'm thinking it is actually possible to unlock it and leave no trace of jailbreaking by using blackra1n to jailbreak then installed blacksn0w only and then removed blackra1n from the spring board.
so my question is if they (the seller) did just that ^
Will Rock not see it on the installed packages list?
I was going to restore it to 3.1.2 to check the unlock but sadly 3.1.3 has come out 2 days before my purchase and it made impossible to back up the 3.1.2 UDID/TSS thinggy SHSHed?;; whatever you call it.
so tell me how i can tell it apart? othewise i have to wait for the new baseband unlock to be released or buy an o2 contract;;

And u see there's no blacksn0w installed. It looks like it's factory unlocked buut i won't take the risk of upgrading. And btw if u have a new bootrom 3gs u can't even jailbreak it. So stay pit until 4.0 comes out and a new unlock comes out then upgrade. Cause if it turns out it isn't factory unlocked ull just install the new unlock but if it is. It won't ave hurt u anyways.

Every where I go seems to be pointing to the same way to semi know if it is factory unlocked.
Not 100% sure if this is the same for 3GS though.Apple website will tell you if your iphone is officially unlocked or not.
Follow this link: Locating iPhone wireless carriers
Scroll down to the table. Now check your iphone 3G part number printed on your iphone. Compare that to the one in the table. Now you will know which country your iphone came from, and if this country offer officially unlocked iphones or not, by the tick infront of "Locked to carrier"
Just tell us what iphone part number is yours)

Just went to the link abs saw the table.
But there is no part number. And it's for 3G....
I ordered an o2 sim. And when it comes I will update. Then we will see if it's factory unlocked or not. Thanks any ways. :-)

yay! thanks! ye im soo happy too. im currently on 3 (Hutchison UK) and their customer service is really bad. but the 3G signal is very good compared to O2-UK so...
but O2 are good in ways that i get my broadband discounted and use inclusive texts to send pic/video (multimedia) messages. (one MMS counts as 4 text messages) All the other networks will charge separate extra per MMS sent...
just got 20GBP simplicity deal. 30 days contract. so gonna cancel 3!
