You can't. You can only jailbreak 3gs if it was jailbroken previously. But you can always try. Use snowbreeze if you are pc. If you are on mac, use pwnage tool the latest one from blog.iphone-dev.org

I'm on exactly the same situation, stuck on Apple, had to restore on 3.1.3 and now my 3Gs is furniture on my desk and I spend 2 - 3 hours a day searching the net and hoping for a solution. I'm sure there are thousands like us. How long will we have to wait for a solution?

Don't even waste your time with snowbreeze. Didn't work on my 3gs. I've restored my phone twice trying it.

I've managed to jailbreak my 3Gs after the grave error of Upgrading to 3.1.3. I had saved my ECID SHSH files in Cydia with Sauric and becasue my iPhone was previously jailbroken I've managed to downgrade to 3.1.2 and after that Jailbreak it with BlackRain. The Baseband can't be downloaded though, so I'm stuck on the new one which means that my iPhone turned into an iPod. No Phone, no Internet outside my Wireless network at home, no GPS (I don't get why it doesn't connect to sattelites, I remember it used to work well on 3.1.2 before I upgraded. Could it be connected to the Cellular Network, somehow?).
It's still something but I really hope an Unlock solution is found soon!

They won't release a unlock or jailbreak till 4.0 comes out. Otherwise Apple will just patch the holes, and make it even more hard to crack.

Can someone please explain why not release the unlock for baseband 05.12.1? As the jailbreak is out working already for 3.1.3 and I think Apple be more worried about Jailbreak than unlock option as allows users to use app outside of apple control. Unlock only relates to AT&T could lose income but they get there share just selling the iPhone alone and cancel fee charges if you want one and not there contract.
I myself can’t see holding the unlock a big benefit waiting for next release 4.0 as iPad and iPhone will not have same firmware but it will be similar as iPad has external SD memory and no camera and a few other tweaks. The unlock is to allow users to use other carriers SIM’s while the iPhone SIM will not even fit in the iPad as a different version “Mini”. Make me wonder if the code string even the same as could see that part being tweaked between the units too.
Not me to point out but having an external SD chip makes a large open door for iPad hacks can be loaded via SD and tweak forever. Compared to a sealed unit like the iPhone that only have USB interface.

LOL my iPhone working fine this is not for myself as I can stay on 3.1.2 many more months and wait while my carrier not AT&T. Just there is massive people out there offline and doing the release now that this waiting is not going to gain much as it's all a gamble as maybe 3.2 that could have a high chance of same hack as 3.1.3 unlock or 4. that could be a whole new firware animal. As most of these people now know if 3.2 or 4 is released not to update.
By the way there will be a fix for user with locked baseband 05.12.1 even if you do not believe, if not by one group by another but I like to see the groups done in past do again. As it maybe a more complexed version of fuzzyband to change the baseband but it will be hacked so users can unlock.

theres no jailbreak for fresh 3gs 3.1.3.

3gs 3.1.3 with baseband 5.11.07 can be unlocked with fixed blacksn0w but you cant jailbreak it.but

and no jailbreak or unlock will come out for 3gs 3.1.3 with bb 5.12.01 untill new iphone os version comes out.

i sold my locked 3.1.3 with bb 5.12.01 finding no solution and bought factory unlocked 3.1.2 with bb 5.11.07.

this is the only solution for now.

So technically a 3GS on 3.1.3 with 5.11.07 would still have to get jailbroken to be unlocked with Blacksn0w. Just to clear that up.

original iphone was released
but my iphone crashed so
I am waiting for 4.0. The iphone is not the same. I do appreciate the dev team .

i have an iphone 3gs 3.1.3 with baseband 5.12.1, i don't need to unlock but i just want to jailbreak it, so is that possible ??? if yes then i hope its not blackrain cuz i used before and i had a problem with restarting my iphone, cuz every time i restarted my iphone i got stucked into recovery mode and i had to connect it to the pc and run blackrain again to fix the problem. so is there any thing better than blackrain ????
