Confused about Bootloader 05.08 and 05.09
I have an iPhone 3G which I unlocked a year ago. I upgraded it to the new firmware 4.1 without reading the box. I thought it said iTunes has an update, not iPhone.
Well now that I am screwed, and can't seem to get it unlocked now, I have managed to downgrade the firmware to 3.1.2 but it still has the modem firmware as 05.14.2.
I have jailbroken it again and installed fuzzyband to try and download the bootloader but it says I cannot since I have 05.09. I have been reading many blogs that say a bootloader is hardware, not software, so can someone please explain to me how I was able to unlock my iPhone before when I was using firmware 3.1.2 but now I can't? I don't understand.
Every blog says that bootloader 05.09 is not unlockable and that I am basically screwed. How can the update with iTunes to the new firmware upgrade the bootloader? Am I missing something? Can't I simply reverse what the update did??
I am not that great with all of this, but seem to be doing okay so far, so any help would be HUGELY appreciated!
I am not sure if I can post my skype here, so narrators, please let me know and I will remove, or you can remove it: coltonvancouver.
Will someone please help me with this as I want my iPhone back with the provider I use, not the one I am locked to.

@Colton, there is nothing you can do in regards to unlocking right now.
The iTunes update didn't upgrade the bootloader to 5.9, it has always been 5.9 for you. iTunes updated the BASEBAND which is software. There are usually baseband updates every other firmware release. Basebands determine whether we can unlock or not. Bootloader determines when we can downgrade a baseband or not in this case.

Oh Thank You Anniex423, I knew something just didn't seem right. So it looks like there may be an unlock for baseband 05.14.02 but not until firmware 4.2 is released from apple, is that correct?
Baseband 05.14.02 Unlock Release Date
I know I am probably asking repetitive questions, so I really apologize in advance... I have spent days restoring, installing, jailbreaking, etc and I am tired of it.
Thank you for your fast reply!! I will be patient now and not mess around with my phone now, knowing that I just have to wait. At least it's jailbroken so I can make it look like it was before the update!
Thank you again Annie, I really appreciate your help!

if you can realise , there is a push (and activation related facetime) issue about limera1n hactivated devices...
in mitime's website ,they suggest while keeping jailbreak and unlock ,we can execute a bunch of commands and can loose activation on purpose (deactivating)
then if we activate again with original sim (at&t for usa phones) , a lot of issues will be solved.
with your very deep knowledge , can you confirm that ?
(you can see that suggestion on troubleshooting section of mitime.com)

Sorry but I have absolutely no idea what you just said. I know sometimes hacktivation can cause problems, but I never had a problem with Limera1n because I don't hacktivate. I use my SIM to activate.
I did run into losing AT&T carrier and signal on one of my iPhone 4's and had to redo it without hacktivation, but I feel like it's a mere coincidence.
I think I'm understanding your post better now. I can confirm with Sn0wbreeze hacktivation, it does cause known problems; so I don't doubt that deactivating and reactivating with an official SIM will eliminate any issues. So I guess I will say yes I can confirm your statement/question.
It only makes sense. I would rather suggest a restore and rejb with the official SIM rather than massing around with commands and whatnot.
