Default why would blackra1n icon not appear on springboard?

hi all im trying to restore a friends iphone 3g.
Its an unofficial carrier so i downloaded an pre-activated ipsw but when its finished restoring there are no options to configure APN settings so I can get an outgoing connection to use cydia to get Ultrasn0w. I am going to try to do it using wifi tonight.

However... I am only trying to use cydia to unlock as blackra1n will nto show on my springboard after an install..

    any ideas why?!

First, are you on 3.1.2. Second, why did you install pre-activated ipsw when you could just run Blackra1n to jailbreak it? If you restored to an activated ipsw it means it's already jailbroken which is why Blackra1n probably doesn't show up on the SB. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. Third, one possibility that the APN settings are not available is because the ipsw you used to restore doesn't have it configured. Once again someone correct me if I'm wrong. There are fixes for it but I'd still recommend a clean restore/upgrade to 3.1.2 if you haven't already, and then run Blackra1n and it should be fine.

i did just as you suggested at the end of your post and it worked fine.I restored to pre-activated as I was using an unofficial carrier and didn;t know if I could blackra1n before I activated?
    Anyway, all sorted now!
    Thanks for the reply
