I currently have a 3.0.1 FW iPhone 3G.

To unlock/jailbreak/activate for windows, you download redsn0w .8 and the iphone 3.0 restore file.

am i correct?

upgrade to 3.1.2 legally through itunes and then use blackra1n and follow the instructions on blackweather

Only if you have a 3GS with the new bootrom. But since you have a 3G you're good to go.

Yes. blackra1n will activate the phone and you need to install blacksn0w for the unlock.
