Unlocking iPhone 2G confusion. Pls Help! Thx.

hi guys,

wonder if you could help a noob out. i'm a bit confused and not sure what to do with unlocking my iPhone 2G.

currently i have the iPhone 2G which i got in the States when it first came out. the guy that sold it to me said that i can't upgrade the iPhone software otherwise it will be locked and i won't be able to use my current sim card. the version that i have right now is 1.1.1 (yes very old i know) and obviously i feel like i'm stuck in the 19th century.

i've been searching plenty of sites and i came across redsn0w which will be able to jailbreak and unlock my phone. but in order to do that, my phone needs to have 3.0.1 installed. so going into iTunes, the one and only software available is 3.1.2. now, to my knowledge, upgrading to this is a not a good idea coz it changes the base-band coding of my iPhone and redsn0w will not work with that new code. am i correct to say this?

if this is so, then how do i get the 3.0.1 version installed? and basically the ultimate question: how do i unlock, jailbreak, and have the latest version installed in my iPhone 2G?

No problem regarding how to unlock 2G iphone i am a giving you the

Go here - iCommunity - Jailbreak information at a glance Download 3.0 for the 2g

then, restore your phone to that 3.0 file.

Run redsn0w and install cydia and unlock the phone (your gonna need two bootloader files aswell)

then once your back up and running on 3.0, you can simply restore up to 3.1.2, and use blackra1n to hacktivate. Or just stay on 3.0 (not MUCH different than 3.1.2)
