Question How to tell if 2G is unlocked and jailbroken

I have a 2G iphone, i am unsure if it is jailbroken or unlocked. I have no sim card for it.

I can get into the iphone's main screen so i think its jailbroken but how can i tell if its unlocked. If i check settings>general>about> it says that the carrier is Fido (i think its still locked).

How can i unlock it without a sim card
running ver 3.1.2 and 04.05.04_G (is that the baseband?)

    thanks

    Default 1 more question

i did get it working but a friend told that since i used blackra1n, if the battery dies i will have to jailbreak it again.

I did use a custom IPSW file to restore the phone and i think that is what unlocked it. Am i going to run into problems if the battery dies or does the custom IPSW fix that problem

    Just a bit confused
    Thanks

You only have to run Blackrain each time you reboot on a 3gs so no worries for you.

I agree about this site. If you ever need to find something out quick, there's a google custom search at the top right of the forums page and you can find most any information by useing it and don't have to wait for someone to reply for your answer.
