Jailbreak iPhone 2G with 3.1.2

From what I've read, blackra1n should be able to JB the phone but keeps going back to use iTunes to activate on iPhone screen and iTunes says SIM not compatible. The phone seems to be keep it's unlock (on top left, shows carrier, strength, etc).

In older days, there used to be a way to JB it using emergency dial etc. Can anyone suggest any way to JB this puppy?

Its my old phone and like to breath new life into it.

are you sure you're on 3.1.2? maybe your update through itunes didn't go over well. restore or use custom 3.1.2 firmware and try blackra1n again.

Yes, I did quite that and it worked. I restored with a modded 3.1.2 with no activation. Looks like Apple is not locking the 2g anymore (or trying to). So, once I restored with a modded 3.1.2, I didn't have to do anything as it was already activated and jailbroken.
