I was just given an iPhone 3G and already have a plan with AT&T, which is completely over priced compared to verizon and t-mobile.

I was wondering if there's a way I can use the iPhone, not just as an iPod touch so to speak, but actually as a phone without changing my plan to pay for the Data plan? Does jailbreak have anything to do with that?
