iPhone does not recognize T-Mobile sim card!
All,
First let me say thanks for reading my post. I have spent hours scouring though threads and I have not been able to find an answer to my question. I am brand new to the unlock and jailbreak process so please excuse my ignorance. I just received an unlocked (Blackrain) iPhone 3GS 3.1 from an merchant on Ebay. When I put my T-Mobile sim card into the phone I received a voicemail notification and there was no T-Mobile signal (only dashes). I've tried 2 different T-Mobile sim cards and no joy! I am sure that it's a setting issue. Any suggestions you might have would be appreciated!
Thanks,
Rachael

It's probably not unlocked. Blackra1n is the jailbreak only, you need to install and run Blacksn0w.

Try Settings - General - Network -and turn off 3G, You can also try a network reset.

And u said it was unlocked on 3.1. U have to upgrade to 3.1.2 then jailbreak with blackra1n. Which will automatically install blacksn0w

Thanks for the quick response fellas! I updated to 3.1.2 and I unlocked with blackrain RC3. However, I am not receiving a tmobile signal. The 3G option is turned off. How do I perform a network reset?

All,
Thanks for your help. I got the phone to work. I turned on the wifi and it enabled me to unlock the phone with blacksn0w. Apparently, the merchant jailbroke the phone and did not unlock it. That's why I could not receive a signal from tmobile. Thanks again.

So I'm new to iPhones and how did you get yours to work? I am having a similar sim card probhere the iPhone will not read my t-mobile sim, but when you say that you unlocked the phone with blacksn0w, what exactly do you mean? I would like to try it, but i'm not sure where to find blacksnow or how to do it

first go to settings->general->about and list what your Version and Modem Firmware is.....then further instructions can be given.

It is bought off of ebay so I don't have any of the original stuff but the version is 4.0.2 (8A400) and firmware is 05.13.04.
Does that help?

it is 3g. I need to jailbreak and unlock is i guess but the person who sold it too me was supposed to have done that. there is no cydia, though, so obviously it is not jailbroken. i'm terrible with this kind of thing

they probably realized they couldn't jailbreak 4.0.2 (until recently) and sent it anyway. that article explains it though.

ok i had the same problem, when i jailbroke/unlocked it with 4.0.2 it was really slow and my service would cut in and out possibly because of the newer software so i downgraded to 3.1.3 then jailbroke using pwnage tool, just google jailbreak 3.1.3 iphone 3g using pwnage tool and you'll find instructions then i unlocked with ultrasn0w by adding the ultrasn0w.com source and it finally works now.

there have been many complaints about ultrasn0w not working with 4.0.2 so I'd downgrade if I were you.
How to Downgrade Your iPhone 3G[S] from iOS 4 to iOS 3.1.3
there have also been many cases that the new ultrasn0w isn't working...so maybe try a prior versionLast edited by amsgator; 08-26-2010 at 05:38 PM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost
