    Default Unlocking iPhone 2G

    Is there a way to unlock the iPhone 2G to 3.1.2 without jailbreaking it? Because for previous updates, like 3.0 with the programs (iPwnage or redsn0w) used, I would just untick the Cydia install & only tick the unlock option. But from reading the forums it seems that the only way to unlock is by downloading Cydia & using bootneuter. I really only want the unlock and not the jailbreak so if there is a way to do it, thanks!

    Nope, have to jailbreak to get the unlock. Why are you afraid to jailbreak, just wondering?

    Not afraid of jailbreaking it, I just have no use for it.

    Well another question then;
    If I can't unlock without jailbreaking it, is there a way to remove/delete the jailbreak once its unlocked?

    If I were to use this method listed here, http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=5527 can I just not select Cydia, and only select sn0w to unlock? Will that work?

    Yes. But the phone will still be jailbroken whether you choose to install Cydia or not.

    Yep that's fine; I just don't want Cydia.
    And I just realized this is not an unlocking one? This is only jailbreaking..so where's the one to unlock iPhone 2G for 3.1.2? I can't seem to find it anywhere on the site.

    You will have to install Cydia and then install BootNeuter from Cydia to unlock a 2G phone.

    BlackSn0w doesn't support the iPhone 2G. BootNeuter will work to unlock your iPhone with no difficulties. You can still use BlackRa1n to jailbreak and hacktivate.

    will an att 3g (don't know if it's gophone or not) sim card work with a used/activated iphone 2g? i have tried every jailbreak/unlock method i can find and it is still asking me to connect to itunes. i know the 2g stand for EDGE, but att only sells the 3g sim card...or at least that's what they told me!

    Can Cydia & BootNeuter be deleted from the phone once its unlocked?
    And is BlackRa1n a mandatory step, or is it optional after unlocking?

    Blackra1n will jailbreak and then install Cydia to get BootNeuter. You may be able to delete Cydia after your done, but not sure if it would effect BootNeuter or not. Guess you could try and see what happens. Just because Cydia is installed does not mean you have to use it after that, it will not effect your phone at all. I also believe that once you have Cydia you may love it. There are so many tweaks and things available there.
