Hello i have a 2g and was wounding do i have to have the data plan to use this phone. I have all ready jail broken it I THINK. i am with att right now just dont want to get the data plan just yet.
You need a data plan if you want to use (whenever wifi is not available):
Google Maps
Safari
Instant Messenger (of any type)
Basically anything that requires data/internet. If you just want to be able to make calls and run offline apps (such as some games or ipod etc.) then you don't need a data plan.
Having an iPhone ultimately having a data plan will give you the best experience
OK all the phone is doing is giving me the USB cable pointing up at itunes. dose that mean i need to jail break it again. what i did was upload to the latest vieson then i tyed to unlock and jailbrake.
how can i find out what operating system i'm on if i have no SIM card in the phone? guy at work wants me to jailbreak/unlock for him, the phone looks like it might be a 1G, prolly a hand-me-down or something, wouldnt be surprised if it was just found/stolen
The easiest way is to just upgrade to 3.1.2 then use blackra1n to jailbreak. You can find many guides on how to use blackra1n. Unlocking 3g(and 3gs) is blacksn0w included with blackra1n and boot neuter (download in cydia) for original iPhone.
