Default unactivated 2g wont turn off, therefore cant jailbreak unlock

So i have this 2g that i bought, advertised as locked to AT&T..I though no problem, i will unlock and jailbreak (done this lots of times)..so i charge the phone and get ready to JB and UL...when i get to the part where it has to be off but plugged in, i cant power it off...i tried normal way, i tried power and home button in every order (as described in every web page i looked at) but i cant get it too power off, therefore i cant jailbreak!!!!...this is sending me crazy...could it be a hardware problem...the screen is on connect to itunes logo
    thanks

If your power button is broken, your choices are limited... There maybe a better way of doing this, but I know i was in a similar situation, and what worked for me was
Just let the battery die out completely, then hold the home button while plugging in the phone. Then restore to a custom .ipsw

Its worked for me in the past.... (The only thing that sucks, is you have to hold the home button for like 5 minutes until the red low battery sign goes away...
The only thing I ask in return for helping, is that you click the thanks button, Thanks!

I don't think blackra1n requires you to use the power button. Upgrade to 3.1.2 then run blackra1n.
