The type of computer you're using and your OS helps too by the way. Also are you restoring to a stock firmware? have you tried recovery mode or DFU when restoring?

Hi DirkMe
I am having the same problem.
I bought 3GS day before and jailbroke it using BlackraIn. Some of the detials of my phone are:
Firmware - 3.1.2
Baseband - 5.1 (i guess so. Is is something which is mentioned against Carrier's name)
Serial - xx94XXXXXXX
Modem Firmware 05.11.07
My problem is:
I now wanted to restore it to Factory Settings but everytime I connet it to iTunes to recover it gives me error message (1611) and doesn't restore it.
I have downloaded latest firmware from Apple's website but don't know how to install it - I can't change it from iTunes.
Can I ask you to guide me how to upgrade the firmware or any other way of restoring my phone to factory settings.
Thanks

try this
Hello rs4line,
1. have the latest iTunes
2. shutdown you Pc / Mac
3. Unplug all USB devices (except for those absolutely required - mouse, keyboard)
4. start your Pc / Mac
5. fire up itunes
6. Connect the iPhone to an USB port closest to the motherboard (usually on the back of the PC / Mac)
7. start the restore
8. never give up
Hope that will help
Cheers
Dirk
