I went into Cydia selected manage, then source, then blackra1n, then blacksnow. if i didn't miss anything then why am i not able to use my tmobile sim card and connect? did i miss something? thanks for your reply

The other mod was mistaken. The only program that will unlock a first gen is bootneuter. You can use blackra1n to jailbreak and download Cydia but then you'll have to use Cydia to download and install bootneuter.

Correct except skip the blacksnow part as that is a unlock where you will use bootneuter instead. Actually you may not have to run bootneuter again as the baseband doesn't get updated so you may stay unlocked but if not just run it again.

Here is a question again. What happens after running bootneuter and the phone recognizes the carrier tmobile but itunes shows different sim card. do i restore back to original settings or using bootneuter flash the 4.6 version?
there was no change with 3.9

Do a forum search for Trouble with iphone 2nd gen 3.1.2 unlock/bootneuter and you will find the answer to your problem if you know how to ssh into your phone.
