Now locked to Orange UK?

I've heard a rumor from someone (of unknown reliability) who went to restore their O2 UK locked iPhone to factory 3.1.2, with the intention of using Blackra1n/Blacksn0w to JB then unlock to use on Orange UK.

Having their Orange SIM in the phone when clicking RESTORE, they say that iTunes activated their iPhone which is now locked to Orange UK!

This would suggest the phones are not assigned to a given network out the factory, but will lock to whichever authorized SIM is first inserted...

Obviously this doesn't have any implications on the JB/Unlock - just curious if anyone had any experience of this?

The iPhone will be available on Orange in the next few days, so no doubt Apple have setup the carrier files for Orange, Try it on Vodafone, T-Mobile or 3, doubt it will work (Well Vodafone might early next year )

I tried doing the reset and registering the iPhone with my orange sim, came up that it is not an official carrier sim etc.

Had to put an O2 payg one in to get it registered.

I'm going to try myself today with a pwned 3.1.2. I've got an O2 sim to activate with if it won't accept my Orange, and can then unlock with Ultrasn0w anyway as I'm keeping the BB down.

I'll keep ya posted.

I've tried restoring my custom 3.1.2 but like you scott it wouldn't let me activate it without using my O2 SIM. Wonder if it's due to my 04.x BB...?

Unless the whole 'activate with Orange' rumor was pie in the sky...

Interestingly though when I downloaded the Carrier Update in iTunes it has set my MMS/internet settings and the GENERAL>NETWORK>CELLULAR DATA menu has gone where I perviously had to input them manually...

Guess Orange have their settings on the server ready for release day.
