Thank you!
I have an iphone 3GS that I upgraded to 3.1.2 and used geohots file as well (on a mac). I instsalled Cydia, Rock and Blacksnow and lost wi-fi. Like yentrog31, I did not have the blacksnow file in Cydia to unistall.
Here's my solution:
In Cydia, I went to manage>sources>edit>add and entered blackra1n.com and then Add Source.
blackra1.com then showed up as a source and when I selected it I was given the option to instal blacksn0w which I did.
I then followed void4114's instructions.Last edited by tedrusky; 11-30-2009 at 09:41 PM. Reason: misspelled address

WOW! It actually worked... Thank you!!!!
Thank you void4114 – you have saved an iPhone 3GS from being thrown at the wall!!
My 3Gs was Jailbroken and Unlocked (I’m on Virgin Mobile) by “blackra1n RC3” – I had the following issues:-
Every reboot resulted in loss of WIFI.
Youtube would take ages just to load the featured page, top today|this week|all etc.. much slower than event the 2g iphone.
Very slow WIFI when general browsing through webpages.
To solve the WIFI issue – I did the reset network settings, phone rebooted and WIFI was back, youtube and browsing however remained slow... even when sat just a few inches from the router.
The loss of the WIFI networks I had already saved was starting to be a pain in the backside having to reset and enter/collect passwords every couple of days when either I installed something that requires a reboot or the phone simply ran out of juice was making me hate my iPhone – I had collected a large number of WIFI passwords at friends, family, work and hotspots and losing them just because the phone ran out of juice was pretty annoying to say the very least.
Weeks I have been trying to find a solution... the other potential fixes out there are installing “Push Fix with youtube” or something similar that didn’t solve the problem... generally it made things worse... I was getting the same stuff over and over and nothing was working... it looked like nobody had solved the problem.
As I installed with blackra1n RC3 I too did not have the uninstall option through Cydia, in fact Cydia wasn’t event installed because I find rock much better. I simply did this:
1. Reset Network Settings (just to get my WIFI back) – [Phone Reboots, WIFI Back]
2. Opened “Rock”
3. Selected “Manage” --> “Manage Sources” --> (EDIT) --> (ADD)
4. http:// - is already there so typed “blackra1n.com/” – (Add Source) – [Rock verifies the source etc...]
5. Clicked Search, typed blacksn0w --> (SEARCH)
6. Selected “blacksn0w” and then pressed [Install]
7. Once installed waited for Virgin to reappear then (step 1 again)
Obviously I knew I would have WIFI because i’d just done the network reset, so connected to the 3g network... all is well... connected WIFI all is well... rebooted... all is well.... switched off... waited 10 minutes...back on... all is well.... rebooted... all is well – bear in mind that every reboot before the above steps would result in dead WIFI! – so this was a big big step forward.
The best part though... it fixed YouTube and also the browsing speed.... my phone feels so stable now in its jailbroken and unlocked condition... a very happy camper indeed.
8. Played with my fantastic jailbroken, unlocked and finally stable 3Gs.
Thank you again... void4114 – Excellent find... thank you for sharing...!

Guys
Been trying for over a week to sort after i stupidly installed Ping on JB 2nd Gen phone.
Tried everything - even restoring all the way back and tried re-virginising!
In desperation tried a suggestion that i had seen - It worked!
Turn off phone. Stick in freezer for 15 mins. Turn on - Wi-Fi should work. Can then D'load Cydia or Rock or Icy - whichever you want to if you haven't been able to before. Then D'Load BossPrefs (I had to keep going back to freezer after WiFi started dropping!!) Once BossPrefs installed. Go to Edge, swkitch off along with Wi-Fi here and also under Settings, WiFi. Turn off.
Back into Freezer and leave for 20 mins. Turn on. Go to Boss Prefs switch on WiFi ONLY. (Do Not switch Edge on) Then Settings, WiFi - switch on. Voila. WiFi should be back.. No Edge but hey something is better than nothing for now. Wi-fi is slightly weaker than normal and if you you use it a lot then signal fluctuates but turn off, leave a few and all ok again
Hope it helps some of you guys

Losing wi-fi on 3Gs
I had the same problem, butmanaged to fix it.
It happens when u reboot the phone after unlocking it with blackra1n, right?
What i did was spend some money
Even thought the wifi is gone u can still connect to 3G right?
Open cydia and add the source blackweather to the source list.
after cydia refreshes search for blackra1n unlock on cydia. Install it and ur problem might be solved.
Worked for me, im pretty sure it will work for u too.

Just a Q from a beginner. how do u guys install cydia while u have the Wifi issue. if most of you downloading it over 3G then u must have an activated sim to do so. what about those (including me) who doesn't have a 3G service & stuck with the WiFi issue. ( cannot detect wifi signal )
I just had this problem after upgrading my iPhone 3G from 3.0 to 3.1.2
tried:
1) resetting network (Never works with me)
2) freezing for 15 mins ( works for a while then stopped & never worked again )
3) Restored it with different Customs & original 3.1.2 firmware ( but never get the wifi back )
4) downgraded to 3.0 where it used to work with no issue ( never get it again )
it sometimes accidentally picks a network if i leave it for a while but return to its bad mode & can't catch any wifi signal
i started to believe that the wifi chip was fried & never gonna work again till i tried one more trick i found in posts :
5)open Maps app >>> hold power botton till the slide appear >>> then hold the home botton till it returns back >>> open maps again.
it sounds unrelated & has nothing to do with wifi, but yes wifi appeard again and gone in seconds. it doesn't really work but at least i now believe that the wifi chip is still working & all the problem is a software issue not a hardware .
wish that a real fix will be release soon cuz an iPhone without WiFi is USELESS

Fix for WiFi problems after iPhone 3.0 upgrade — Go to: 1. Settings 2. General 3. Reset… 4. Reset Network Settings.
After this the WiFi should come on again.
