USA here... I encountered this with an iPhone 3G and an iPhone 3GS on the same day. First, I Jail-broke and unlocked my 3G for my sister, who is on T-Mobile (actually, it had just been replaced in-warranty so it was like-new).
I then Jailbroke and unlocked my new 3GS even though I was still using it with AT&T. I noticed the signal issues that night at work where my signal was always pretty bad on the 3G and it bounced between Edge and 3G often. Now it would usually say either "searching" or "No Service." I restored a fresh firmware and did the JB/UL again with the same results. It wasn't until I restore fresh again and left the unlock out after a JB that things returned to normal.
A week later my sister has finally begun using her new phone and she called to complain that it barely gets a signal on campus at school and usually says the same things ("Searching" or "No Service"). Damn. Her old RAZR was fine there so I know she is having the same problem. She's already resenting her new iPhone, so I'd love to know as soon as anyone has found a fix.
Thanks for at least confirming that it's not just me/us! Why are USA reports so slim though?
