Ok so what iv gathered after racing home from work to unlock my Iphone is that anyone who is not currently activated is screwed? Is that the general understanding?
I need some Help here.
Im not in the US, nowhere near AT&T or an AT&T Sim card so i cant put a legit simcard in. Does that mean i essentially cant update to 3.1.2 nor can i jailbreak/unlock?
I was reading on the dev team blog about PwnageTool 3.1.4 Info (Dev-Team Blog - Pwnage Pie) that its possible to get around this if i have read it right? But its Mac OS only is this correct?
I do have friends with MacOS i can go to but will i always be faced with this problem? What is Hacktivation? is it what im describing.

I am in your seat too since I live in Vietnam. First of all make sure it is RC3 you are running. And not RC2.
Second did you do a clean install from official firmware? Try that . After you done that justy hit the blackra1n button it should automatically hacktivate for you, meaning you shouldn't even see the "emergency screen".

1 im trying to restore fresh and try again
2 if the above doesnt work then ima restore back to 3.0 (hectic process) and then dl blacksnow through cydia since its now on cydia.

bdax are you kidding me? It doesn't automatically "hacktivate" for you? You should report this "bug section" lol. Since it seems to work for most people. Well at least it's on Cydia might as well grab it from there .

I dont even have an Iphone anymore...But I kept watching this site/scene to see Geo pull it off...Im glad u guys are now getting unlocks!
Now onto your problem, I got rid of my phone cause I couldnt wait for the unlock, I needed to have a phone for my job. B4 I got rid of it I DID manage top Hacktivate it...This is what I did.
Get Itunes 9, and a Custom 3.1 Firmware(if thats what ure on) and then Just run RedSn0w with a 3.0 custom like 4x or w/e that guy said in one thread...I know 4 times seems like much, but ALL The guides online, through google, did NOT work for me at all...Pushing Redsn0w 4 times, then put the phone in RESTORE mode. NOT in DFU, use Itunes to push your Custom 3.1 firmware, the screen should turn white....Let it sit, its gonna work for like 8 minutes or so(it really does take a while)....After it finishes up ,and reloads, it'll go to the activate screen, the phone'll flash, and tell u to slide to unlock.
Boom youre at the spring board with Cydia/Icy installed.
I know people will say 'Well all u gotta do is this and that"...But the fact is, NOTHING worked for me...That hacktivated the phone for me.
Well if you can install custom firmware 3.1.2 might as well get a prehacktivated one ala pwnatetool made. And then through Cydia get blacksn0w. Heres the link for a fast and good one:

NOte to all users....There is a catch for most people stuck on the activate screen, since most of you downloaded rc2 from blackra1n.com your webbrowser has cached RC2 and when you go there and try to download RC3, you are getting RC2 which has no hacktivation in that making you stranded at the activation screen. So make sure you see RC3 written on top of the app(blackra1n) when you run it.
