Hey all, I bought my iPhone recently and accidentally upgraded to 3.1.2 which as many of you know it upgraded the baseband as well. I tried to run blackra1n but was no result. I was able to find a few other programs to get the jailbrake. Then downgraded to OS 3.0 then downgraded the baseband to 4.26.08. Got it unlocked and I have service with T-mobile. Everything works right now except EDGE. I get GPRS service but it is really slow (expected).
So my question is....do I need to have an activated ATT sim card to initiate the GeoHot jailbrake and unlock. I ask this because I was not able to use blackra1n prevously and it cosumed many hours of my time to get where I am now.
Any guidance? Thanks a ton.

i unlocked my iphone and put my tmobile sim card in ...the wifi is working but the edge network isnt working ..it says your are not subscribed to a cellular data service. do i have to downgrade my g1 data plan?

You want to make sure you have put in the APN settings for the tmobile data network in order for your internet to work.

go to:

Settings---->General----->Network and there should be an option to choose carrier and enter Data settings.

upgraded from 2.2 to 3.1.2 on an iphone 2g using blackra1n. installed firmware from itunes 9, ran blackra1n, done and working

just been working on adding ********** / winterboard / etc.

I already was jb by blackrain but removed it after install. I went to cydia and added blackrain.com as a source. Then downloaded blacksnow. I did not reinstall brn to get the icon on the iPhone. I only installed BSW thru cydia w blackrain as source. I haven't tested w other sim but blsnw shows as installed under cydia. Easy install.

Yea. It turns out that even this didn't work for me. I selected Cydia and Blacksn0w from the menu. It installed Cydia but it was stuck on "unpacking sn0w" for a while. I waited for about 20 minutes and then decided to quit. Using Cydia, I repo'ed and installed Blacksn0w. It confirmed and it went from "No SIM" to "searching". It searched for a while and went back to No SIM. I reinstalled blacksn0w, restarted, reset settings, everything. IT JUST WONT WORK. It always goes back to No SIM. I have tried with multiple Sims but it just won't work. I'm on 3.1.2 and 5.11 baseband. Commcenter/baseband damaged?
PLEASE HELP.

Update: I did a 1 hour full reset, reinstalled 3.1.2 from iTunes (official), blackra1ned, installed Cydia, and then blacksn0'ed. Still did not work. Showing No SIM.

DeL1873 you have to add a data plan---I have at&t pay as you go plan as well and it showed up like yours until I added the 4.99 for the data plan---they take it out of what you have payed in--this works fine now--just log into your phone pay as you go plan and add it there!

I don't understand with the unsuccessful unlocks. It was so simple for me. I restored fresh, Blackra1n, and Blacksn0w it. It takes no longer than 5min for me.

Reporting back from earlier today....tried out my coworkers sim and had some issues....then this evening tried my girlfriends tmobile sim and success....seems tmobile is having networks issues though..

Seemless unlock after RC3 upgrade, install Tmo sim, spend a few min resetting data and MMS gateways, got my first call before I got all the MMS settings in. Props to GeoHot.
