My 1st generation iPhone was stolen over the weekend. I was on several deployments over the last 4 years keeping me out of the loop, and my phone was on an extremely old firmware (1.1.4?) because of this. I loved that aluminum brick of a phone but it's gone now. Obviously I'm a bit behind the times but I'm going to be getting my hands on a 3GS tonight.

Are the 3GS iPhones currently unlockable? If so, what firmware versions and/or iTunes versions would I use to jailbreak and unlock?

I did see that there was an unlock software release scheduled for the 4th.

tl;dr - on Wednesday you'll download Blackra1n/Blacksn0w, click the button, and the magic happens. Run everything updated (3.1.2 on the phone, 9.0.2 with the iTunes).
