    Default Blacksn0w question

I bought a used iPhone 3G. It had been upgraded to 3.1. It is now jailbroken. It shows 3.0.1 as the current firmware version and 5.11.07 as the baseband. With Blacksn0w coming out I have a few questions. I know Blacksn0w is designed to work with 5.11.07 but do I have to have 3.1 installed or will it still work with 3.0.1 as my firmware? Also will my iPhone still be "jailbroke" after I "unlock" with Blacksn0w? Kind of new at this, so thank you for any help...........

To use Blacksn0w (unlock) you will first have to jailbreak your phone with Blackra1n,so yes it will be jailbroken.Blackra1n and Blacksn0w are both designed to work with the 5.11.07 baseband and require you to restore to 3.1.2 firmware.Blacksn0w will be available on 4th november, hope this helps.

    Default Blacksn0w

Not sure what was used to jairbreak my phone, but it now has 5.11.07 baseband and shows version 3.0.1. Like I said, it is jailbroken with cydia istalled. I thought I saw a youtube video that said not to use Blackra1n if you intended to unlock your phone later. Does it matter that the firmware version is 3.0.1 on my phone now to use Blacksn0w? It seems that backsn0w should work with any iPhone that has a 5.11.07 baseband? The phone was jailbroken after it had been upgraded to 3.1, so does that mean Blackra1n was used to do it?

    Bogwon:

    1) somehow your phone got upgraded to 3.1 official, and then downgraded to 3.0.1, possibly using an old custom IPSW.

    2) the reason you should not use Blackra1n if you intend to jailbreak your phone is because Blackra1n required 3.1/3.1.2, and the only way you could be running 3.1/3.1.2 and still need an unlock is if you upgraded officially, which means that your baseband got upgraded (to 05.11.07), which meant that you could not unlock your phone.

    3) Geohot is f*king unbelievable and has unlocked the current baseband, and on Wednesday is releasing his unlock. Blacksn0w will unlock your phone, but must be run (I'm pretty sure on this part) from Blackra1n, which again, requires 3.1.2. You're going to need to upgrade to 3.1.2 official before using Blackra1n/Blacksn0w.

    4) Your phone was not jailbroken using Blackra1n.

Like I said, the phone I bought was upgraded to 3.1 with iTunes. I took it to someone to try and unlock it. He could not and when I got it back it was jailbroken and showed 3.0.1. It also showed a baseband of 5.11.07. As my iPhone is now, with a 5.11.07base band, showing a version 3.0.1 firmware version, and jailbroken, when Blacksn0w is released, can I download it and unlock my phone the way it is? If not, what steps will I have to take in order to use Blacksn0w properly? thanks again........

Also meant to ask about statements on youtube about Blackra1n saying that if you intend to unlock your phone, do not use Blackra1n to jailbreak it. Was this an older version of Blackra1n or an older video?

I believe he stated to use blackra1n you have to be on current offical firmware version. The unlock is going to be packaged with blackra1n v3. So I am quessing on the 4th download the new version from blackra1n.com and check the options that apply and your good to go. (Guessing you have to be on 3.1.2 before you run blackra1n.)

After reading more on some web sites, I see what you mean about having to download blackra1n first. It will contain Cydia as well as the blacksn0w unlocking software. I wonder which you should do first. Unlock and then install Cydia or Cydia first then unlock? I guess I will have to wait and see if I have to have 3.1.2 installed before I can download blackra1n and begin the process. thanks for the help....

Sounds to me that the guy that were to perform this unlock service tried to put the older 3.0 ispw firmware in attempt to downgrade the baseband to unlock thinking it would work. Since it doesn't, the phone got stuck with 3.0 and 5.11 baseband. If I understood you right, just plug the phone to itune and have it update to 3.1.2. After that, blackra1n to jailbreak and wait for the unlock to come out on Wednesday. This is precisely what I did to my phone. Hope this helps.
