iPhone 2G 3.1.2 Unlock
Hi Guys,
I have an old 2G that’s running 3.1.2
I'm, trying to set this up to run jailbroken and unlocked.
I've tried to restore a custom firmware (iPhone1,1_3.1.2_7D11_Custom_Restore.ipsw) Pwnage tooled on a mac but receive the 6000\60001 error (Phones in DFU mode)
I've tried inserting a legitimate iPhone SIM card (O2) but iTunes states the sim is invalid. (The SIM card inserted in this iPhone does not appear to be supported)
Can I roll back to an unlockable firmware (Then update to 3.1.2) and then upgrade or has the 3.1.2 updated the bootloader?
Thanks.

restore to 3.01--can get it from this site--then restore with the custom firmware 3.12--works fine---did it myself! just be patient when it is restoring--it take longer than you want to wait but it will happen--good luck!

thanks for that tid bit, that helped me out! below is my journey with a 2g.
i went thru hell and back with a 2G iphone i picked up. i kept getting error 1600's and etc no matter what i did. i was finally able to restore to 1.1.4 then to 3.1.2 then back to 3.0.1 then to 3.1.2 and i can confirm this works.
going to 1.1.4 with itunes 7.5 (which you probably won't have to do) revived my baseband because i kept getting errors and i was stuck in a recovery loop. after i was able to get an emergency call screen by using iReb to fix the recovery loop.
i went to stock 3.1.2 (and for some reason i used itunes 8.2, updated it but not sure if you want to, all the latter steps may work with itunes 9). then i went to a stock 3.0.1. then i ran redsnow and selected install cydia and unlock. this unlocks your phone after giving it the neccessary bootloaders. after redsnow runs and you're working; you update via itunes to 3.1.2 (stock). when that was complete, i was unactivated. then i ran geohot's blackra1n and it jailbroke in literally 30 seconds and i was finally at 3.1.2 jailbroken and unlocked and could make calls (updating to 3.1.2 after your phone is already unlocked preserves the unlock!)

Thank You haroonie
Works beautifully. I don't know why somebody didn't write a guide for 2g 3.12.
I restore to 3.0, ran redsnow to unlock, update to 3.12 with Itunes. That loses the jailbreak and the activation. You will get a slide to emergency screen. Don't panic, you didn't lose your unlock, just the activation. Even though I had an AT&T sim(that was never activated), I still lose the activation. I then ran blakra1n and I got pass that screen. Got the jailbreak back, install cydia and is unlock at 3.12 on t-mobile.
That's the beauty of the 2G, never lose the unlock since Apple doesn't care about it anymore. I was going to sell it since I got a 3Gs, but now, I'll just keep it as a backup. It's more valuable to me than the $200+ that I can get on Ebay.

I read that if I did not use Pwnage to upgrade my iPhone 3GS to ver 3.1,2. , I will not be able to unlock my iPhone - I did not use Pwnage. I then used the UltrasnOw to unlock the phone.
I can't tell whether I succeeded because I have not tried using another carrier's sim card.
After trying to instal ultrasnOw, I get the following pop up sometimes when Cydia was loading:
Error: Refreshing Data
GPR Error:
repo666.ultrasnOw.com [4]
Release: The following signatures
were invalid: NODATA 1 NODATA 2
Failed to fetch
repo666.ultrasnOw.com [4]
ages.bz2 Sub-process bzip2
returned an error code (2)
Some index files failed to download,
they have been ignored, or old ones
used instead.
Hope someone could help me on the above. Thanks !!!

unlocking iphone solution
this worked for me 11/13/09 iphone 2g 3.1.2 jailbroken with blackra1n. after bootneuter i had to install afc2add from cydia so i could ssh into iphone, and diskaid trial for my computer to access the root menu through usb. next i went root>private>var>root>library and made a copy of the lockdown folder to my desktop(just for safety reasons). next i removed the lockdown folder from device(some web sites keeped saying to replace it with another which you could download but that wasnt working for me so i just had to remove the lockdown folder from device and close disk aid). rebooted iphone and it work with my t-mobile sim. hope it helps

mklovn, I'm trying to understand how you unlocked your iphone 2G on tmobile. I'm trying to unlock and j/b my 2G iphone (with tmobile too). I understand you upgraded to the stock 3.1.2 through itunes. Then, you used blackra1n. I got some questions:
1) Why did you download and install bootneuter for?
2) Aren't custom FWs better than using blackra1n to unlock 3.1.2?Last edited by malcx; 11-21-2009 at 02:19 PM.

malcx: 1)on *most* 2g, installing blackra1n only jailbreaks it but does not unlock the phone for using other carriers. bootneuter is suppose to unlock the iphone 2g. 2) i tried customs fws but never got them to load on my iphone, only blackra1n worked for me.
there are some cases were 2g users get their iphones unlocked with blackrain. my process works for cases like mine where i *had* to unlocked it with bootneuter. the iphnoe recognized my tmobile sim at the top left corner but the phone said something about it having a different sim card and connect to itunes. plus it would say something about emergency calls only.Last edited by mklovn; 11-21-2009 at 05:38 PM. bootneuter freezes my phone it doesn't unlock it at all.
it says flashing success. then please wait determining current settings..and that pop up stays there for hours and hours and hours. its 7am, i clicked the 'flash' button up top at midnight last night. so i dunno how this is working for everyone else.
iphone 2g
firmware 3.1.2
-1 for this program imo

it did the same to me. just reboot it and go back into bootnueter and u will notice that the settings are the way u flashed them. next, check to see if ur phone is unlocked. if its not u might wanna try removing the lockdown folder to unlock ur phone. (there are instructions on removing the folder in my previous post but its easier if u search "mklovn". i have written the instruction a little bit easier to understand under other forum of this site)
