Can I unlock my Phone?

Just got a used 1g phone cheap from a friend. I made the mistake of going into in itunes and updating to 3.1.2 Can I unlock this phone to use on tmobile? I have been searching and reading my head is spinning. I did a jailbreak with blackra1n. I dont care what version the firmware it is just what the stupid thing to work

Yes you can unlock it. There is a forum here that will teach you or you can jump over to iclarified.com for tutorials as well.

^Dude! He has just started it. Jesus, Give him a break!!.. FYI, unlock is not as easy as jailbreak. It would obviously take sometime, he is yet to find a good exploit. I don't see anything happening atleast for a week.

I went to iclerified and there is no tutorial for my phone with my firmware. I get the idea that if I left the old firmware on it would have been easier. Cant find anything that says 1g iphone and firmware 3.1.2

There is no such thing as 1g Iphone. IT is either Iphone, Iphone3G or Iphone3Gs...There is no unlock for the 3.1.2 firmware no matter on which iphone you are in.

You said you did a jailbreak already. Have you added the unlock repo from Cydia?

Are you on a MAC or on a Windows box?

I guess its a 2g iphone then. I am new to iphone don't know got confused because some post had downloads for 1g ipod touch.

2G, 3G, 3GS for most users. Although it should be 1st Gen, 2nd Gen, and 3rd Gen :P

3.1/3.1.2 vanilla only prevents an unlock on the 3G and the 3Gs. the 2G can still be unlocked. (As the OP is discovering, "2G" is a terrible, terrible misnomer, but it's been adopted by the community, so off we go!)

It updated the firmware but it doesnt work. No signal. This is not easy

Any ideas? I am glad this is a 2nd phone I have a blackberry

Trying it now I guess the other one I tried was no good. I guess the iclerifed post could work.
