So I upgraded it with a 3.1.2 custom IPSW, the problem is now that the baseband is still at 2.3.03, so I have a lovely "No service" up on top. I was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction of getting my baseband correct, so I can get t-mobile compatibility.

You need to update your baseband to 04.26.08 in order to install Ultrasn0w and unlock your carrier so you can use T-Mobile with your iPhone 3G with firmware 3.1.2.
To upgrade your BB from 02.30.03 to 04.26.08, you will need to put your iPhone 3G into DFU mode, restore firmware 3.0 (BB 04.26.08), re-jaibreak using redsn0w and then restore your custom 3.1.2 firmware. Follow these instructions:
- Download firmware 3.0 for the iPhone 3G. Here is the download link, http://appldnld.apple.com.edgesuite....1_Restore.ipsw
- Put your iPhone 3G into DFU mode, not Recovery mode. This is required when restoring an older firmware.
- Connect your iPhone to your computer.
- Turn iPhone off.
- Hold the power and home buttons together for 10 seconds (exactly).
- Release the power but keep holding home until the computers beeps (observed on a PC) as a USB device is recognized.
- A few seconds later iTunes should detect your iPhone.
- You are in DFU mode, If the iPhone screen is OFF (black).
- Open iTunes and press SHIFT+RESTORE (Windows) or OPTION+RESTORE (Mac) and then select your stock Apple 3.0 firmware called iPhone1,2_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw.
- Let iTunes restore your iPhone 3G to firmware 3.0. When it done, you will see a USB cable point to Music CD on your iPhone. Close iTunes.
- Now run Redsnow v0.8 and jailbreak your 3.0 firmware. There are guides on how to use "Redsn0w with firmware 3.0".
Now install your custom 3.1.2 firmware. Put your iPhone 3G into Recovery Mode, not DFU. Here how:
- Put your iPhone 3G into Recovery Mode, not DFU mode.
- Turn the device completely off and disconnect it from cable/dock.
- Hold down the home button.
- While holding down the home button connect to a computer with a cable (easiest) or dock.
- Keep holding down the home button until you see a Connect-to-itunes screen (USB cable point towards a Music CD). You are now in recovery mode.
- From here, open iTunes, press SHIFT+RESTORE (Windows) or OPTION+RESTORE (Mac) and then select your custom 3.1.2 firmware called something like iPhone1,2_3.1.2_7D11_Custom_Restore_W_ACTIVATION.i psw.
FYI: Make sure that your custom 3.1.2 firmware was generated by PwnageTool 3.1.4 using the following options:
- Run Advance mode
- Select "Activate Phone". This is needed for people who have T-Mobile or unofficial carriers.
- Select Cydia, but not Icy.
Oh, don't forget to go into Cydia and install Ultrasn0w.
1. Open Cydia
2. Go into Manage -> Sources
3. Click Edit and then Add.
4. Enter Source:
http://repo666.ultrasn0w.com
5. Click "Add Source".
6. Search for "Ultrasn0w" and install it. Make sure you turn off "Enable 3G" in Settings -> General -> Network, otherwise you will get no signal.
Other footnotes:
You will notice that the carrier name (T-Mobile) is missing next to the signal bars. It is a cosmetic issue and does not effect functionality. To fix it, install "MakeItMine" in Cydia and then enter T-Mobile when you run it.
