iPhone buying without registering !

Hi folks, hope someone can give me a quick answer to this one !! I live in the UK and my wife is going to a conference in St Petes, Florida ! I've asked her to buy me a 3gs 16Gb, will the Apple store sell her one without registering it with AT&T ?? I don't want her to go to the hassle of going to the Apple store (which I believe is in a mall next to Tampa Airport) if Apple won't sell it to her!!

In the USA, both Apple and AT&T will require you to activate your iPhone 3GS before you can leave the store.

Your better off buying one from ebay.com the store requires credit check first, then a 2 year contract with At&t first payment not due for one month.You could check craigslist.com and search the area that she is going to,for one by state and city. thats all I got for ya.

Also "no cash" only payments by credit card in the Apple stores funny they don't take cash

Apple USA will not sell her an iPhone without watching her sign up with AT&T or connecting it to her already active account.

not in an Apple store, but she can in Best Buy--she'll have to pay full retail price and it will still be locked to ATT, but she can jailbreak and unlock it.

You can buy the iPhone without a contract both in the AT&T and Apple store. You just have to pay the full retail price ($650 --$599 + tax), which is insane (well, that's what I did). For $100 extra bucks you could have a legit unlocked phone, if you can arrange to buy the phone in Hong Kong. Oh, btw, whoever up in this thread said you can unlock the phone out of the box is wrong. No 3rd party unlock available so far and one doesn't seem to come our way soon (notwithstanding the rumors of geohot working on exploiting the BB 5.11.7).. That's why we are on this forum on daily basis to see if an unlock is coming our way. Anyway, my suggestion is to save the money, and get the internationally unlocked one!
